Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan is a native of and brought up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam, her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her a position as curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family later moved into the landmark. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate and a top student in singing. Sullivan began singing in the school's chorus as a contralto before joining the adult choir just a few years afterwards. Sullivan did not get exposed to secular music at first. "I started singing solos in the church, and someone wanted me to sign up to a gospel record when I was eleven. However, I was not ready to do that," she says. Then, McDonald's held a contest with children from large cities. I was selected to perform "Accept the Grace of God" on it's Showtime at the Apollo. And the people were very enthusiastic. Stevie Wonder sang her part at his 13th birthday. Sullivan aged 15 began her career with Jive Records. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records in the year 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. However, this album didn't get released. Sullivan was eventually dismissed at the hands of the company. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded a number of the tracks for her debut project, which included the hit single "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
